The Jos #EndBadGovernance Protest 2024 Coalition in Plateau State has announced the suspension of its street protests for two days to facilitate dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

Mr. Enoch Vilret, the coalition’s spokesperson, briefed newsmen on Sunday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, stating that the suspension would be in effect from Sunday, August 4, to Tuesday, August 6.

Vilret explained that the decision was made to allow for discussions with authorities following President Bola Tinubu’s national address on Sunday. The coalition remains committed to its cause and hopes this period will lead to constructive dialogue. Should the discussions not occur within the stipulated time, the coalition plans to resume peaceful protests.

“However, we would like to clarify that we are not the organizers of this protest. Instead, we are leaders in our own right on the Plateau who have stepped in to coordinate and ensure that the protests remain peaceful and orderly,” Vilret emphasized. The coalition aims to guide and support citizens’ voices responsibly and constructively.

The coalition also distanced itself from protesters carrying non-Nigerian flags, particularly the Russian flag, urging security forces to arrest those undermining the movement’s integrity.

Vilret noted concerns about elements planning to incite looting and vandalism, condemning such actions and calling for the arrest of those involved.

“We would not tolerate any form of violence or destruction,” Vilret asserted, reiterating the coalition’s dedication to peaceful advocacy. He urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and hopeful for a better future for Nigeria.

The coalition’s commitment to positive change remains steadfast, believing that through collective effort and peaceful advocacy, a better future for the nation can be achieved.
