The reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has praised the Kano State Government and Assembly for their efforts to preserve the integrity of the Kano Emirate.

He stated this during his appreciation speech at the Government House in Kano on Friday. The ceremony marked his receipt of the reappointment letter from Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.

Emir Sanusi II in gratitude to God, proclaimed his reinstatement as a manifestation of divine intervention and the will of God.

Reflecting on his reinstatement, Sanusi Lamido emphasized the spiritual dimensions of his return to leadership, saying, “The Arabians used to say that in everything that we are going to witness, there is a lesson that shows us that God is there.

Whatever is happening to an individual is preordained by Allah, and to those who are sensible enough, it’s a lesson.” He holds the belief that God’s plans are unchangeable and that every event unfolds according to divine will.

Sanusi recalled his initial appointment in 2014 by former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and expressed profound gratitude for his reappointment a decade later by Governor Abba Yusuf.

He highlighted the historical significance of his return, noting, “Among Kano Emirs, it started in Bagauda over 1,000 years ago.

This year, we had Emir Muhammadu Koguna, who was overthrown, and he came back after some days. This shows that in 1,000 years, there has been no case like what happened now.”

Addressing the audience, the !6th Emir of Kano warned against the political fragmentation of traditional emirates, referencing how some northern states have seen significant dilution of their emirates.

While praising the Kano State Government, the Emir stated, “This thing that has been brought to Kano, had it been allowed, one day we will wake up with the Emirs of Kumbotso, Bichi, Fagge, and 44 Emirs. So what the government and the assembly did was a rescue mission.”

Governor Abba Yusuf, while presenting the appointment letter, acknowledged Sanusi’s qualifications, declaring, “By the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure of confirming the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council.

” He praised Sanusi’s competence, credibility, and popularity and urged him to promote unity and harmony among the Islamic sects in Kano.

Sanusi’s reinstatement is seen as a pivotal moment in the history of the Kano Emirate, promising a new chapter of stability and continuity for one of Nigeria’s most significant traditional institutions.
