Defections To APC Is The ‘Worst Political Sin’- Kwankwaso

The National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly condemned the recent spate of defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the trend as the “worst political sin” in Nigeria’s democracy.

Kwankwaso made the remarks on Friday evening while addressing a crowd of loyal supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano. The gathering included hundreds of party faithful from Takai Local Government Area who had resisted pressures to abandon the NNPP for the ruling APC.

His statement follows a wave of high-profile defections from the NNPP, including that of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, along with several federal lawmakers from Kano State.

Although Kwankwaso did not mention names directly, he referenced Kano South as a symbol of voter loyalty and integrity.

“Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected spaghetti, N200, and Atamfa (wrappers) and were patient to vote for the NNPP,” Kwankwaso said.

“But those who won the election among us decided to abandon the masses and join those who do not have the masses at heart but are only after what they will get for themselves and their families.”

He warned that defecting from a party that provided a political platform to victory is “the highest level of betrayal.”

“There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support. This is the highest level of betrayal,” he added.

Amid speculation about his own political future, including rumors of a possible return to the APC, Kwankwaso used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya ideology, urging the youth to remain vigilant against opportunistic politicians who prioritize personal interest over public service.

Commending the Takai delegation for their loyalty, he said, “Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task. They will not know until they engage in the fight.”

Also speaking at the event, NNPP State Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa praised the Takai group for what he called their “right choice” and assured them of full reintegration into the party’s structure.

“You will be treated equally, without discrimination,” Dungurawa assured the returnees.
