International award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has initiated legal proceedings against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child over joint custody or unrestricted access to her.

The legal motion, filed by Davido’s legal team, including Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, was submitted to the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024. The suit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Davido as the applicant and Momodu as the sole respondent.

In his 44-paragraph affidavit, Davido detailed the background of their relationship and his ongoing support for Imade.

He recounted that their romantic relationship ended several years ago, but they agreed to co-parent their daughter.

Davido emphasized his financial contributions, including covering Imade’s school fees and providing a luxurious apartment offer, which Momodu declined, demanding instead an annual rental payment.

Davido stated, “I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch.

”He also mentioned purchasing a Range Rover and a Highlander SUV to ensure their daughter’s transportation needs were met.

Despite his efforts, Davido claimed Momodu continued to make exorbitant demands, including a lump-sum payment for a nanny’s salary. He described these demands as “outlandish and utopian” and stated that Momodu’s actions have caused him significant distress.

The singer further disclosed an incident where I missed two weeks of school. Upon inquiry, Momodu cited issues with the Range Rover’s condition but failed to inform Davido, prompting him to provide another vehicle and additional funds for repairs.

Davido expressed his frustration over what he perceives as unwarranted cruelty from Momodu, despite his contributions to their daughter’s welfare. The legal battle marks another chapter in their often turbulent co-parenting relationship.

In 2021, Momodu publicly shared her distress over Imade bearing Davido’s last name instead of hers. She recounted her emotional reaction on Instagram, highlighting the cultural and familial pressures that influenced the decision.

As the court case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the custody arrangement for Imade will be resolved.
