Kano State High Court has issued an interim order restraining the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from carrying out renovations on the Nasarawa Mini Palace.
The court, presided over by Chief Judge Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, issued the order in response to a suit filed by the Kano State Government, the State Attorney General, and the Kano Emirate Council.
The plaintiffs are challenging Emir Bayero’s actions regarding the palace, where he has been residing since his dethronement by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in May 2024.
The court ruled that all parties involved must maintain the current condition of the palace, particularly concerning its structural and architectural design, until the matter is resolved.

Justice Aboki’s order states: “That an order of interim injunction is hereby made restraining the defendant, his agents, privies, or anyone acting under the instruction or command of the defendant from demolishing, renovating, repairing, reconstructing, or refurbishing the property known as Gidan Sarki Nasarawa… pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice before this court.”
The case was initiated via an ex parte motion filed on September 9, supported by a 33-paragraph affidavit from Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, Matawallen Kano. In addition, the court directed that Emir Bayero be served the court documents by substituted means. A hearing on the matter has been set for October 2, 2024.
The legal battle draws attention to the status of the Nasarawa Palace, a historical site in Kano, and raises questions about Emir Bayero’s future in Kano state following his dethronement.
