A High Court sitting in Kano has issued an order preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and six other individuals.
The ruling was made by Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad, who restrained the EFCC, the sole respondent in the suit, and its agents from arresting, harassing, detaining, intimidating, inviting, or in any way infringing on the fundamental rights of the applicants. This order is effective pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed.

The judge granted the interim order after reading the motion ex-parte, dated and filed on June 5, 2024. He emphasized that the interim order, the motion on notice, and all other processes related to the suit must be served to the respondent promptly before the next court date.
The case has been adjourned to June 24, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
The EFCC is investigating Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), over allegations of diverting campaign funds amounting to N2.5 billion.

The applicants in the suit include the NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayanku, Ahmed Balewa, Chief Clement Anele, Lady Folshade Aliu, Eng. Buba Galadima, and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
