The Jigawa State Taskforce Committee on Retrieval of Government-Owned Vehicle Plate Numbers has announced that it will begin verifying the authenticity of official vehicle number plates across the state for security reasons.
This was disclosed during a visit by the committee to the Emir of Hadejia, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, at his palace.
Mr. Tijjani Murtala, Chairman of the Taskforce, explained that the committee was established by Governor Malam Umar Namadi to address the illegal use of government-issued vehicle number plates by members of the public.

According to him, the misuse of these plates poses significant security risks, and the committee will intensify efforts to curtail such activities.
“We are committed to ensuring that all official vehicle number plates are used appropriately and legally. This initiative is critical for enhancing security in our state,” said Murtala.
In response, the Emir of Hadejia, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, warned residents against using official number plates for personal or unlawful purposes. He noted that some individuals have been using these plates to commit crimes, thereby endangering the community.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals are misusing government-registered number plates for selfish reasons, including criminal activities. I urge the committee to implement strict measures to enforce the law and curb this illegal practice,” the Emir said.
The royal father, represented by Galadiman Hadejia, Alhaji Usman Abdul’aziz, assured the committee of the full support of the Hadejia Emirate in their efforts to address the situation and uphold law and order in the state.
The crackdown is expected to improve security and restore proper use of government-issued vehicle plates across Jigawa State.
