The management of Bayero University, Kano, has said that normal academic activities will continue despite the forthcoming nationwide hunger protests slated for August 1, 2024.
A statement issued by Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, and made available to Grassroots Parrot on Monday evening said the management has taken necessary safety measures on all campuses.
The statement titled “Nationwide Protest: Call for Peace and Calm as Normal Academic Activities Continue in BUK,” however, cautioned the university community against being exposed to any potential danger.
The statement reads, “Following the planned nationwide protest set to commence on Thursday, August 1, 2024, the management of Bayero University, Kano, wishes to inform members of the university community that normal academic and administrative activities will continue. Consequently, staff and students are advised to remain peaceful, calm, and law-abiding.

“The management has taken all necessary precautionary measures to guarantee the safety of the lives and property of staff and students on all campuses.
“Any attempt to violate the peaceful atmosphere would be met with stern action. Please do not hesitate to report any suspicious elements and/or movement within the campuses for appropriate action.
“The university management is not unmindful of the right to peaceful assembly. However, the management is concerned about the safety of staff, students, and university property.
“Therefore, it is advisable that members of the university community exercise caution with a view to avoiding exposure to any potential danger.”
