Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has debunked reports circulating online alleging misconduct in its admission process, describing them as false and misleading.
The university debunked the reports in a statement issued by its Deputy Registrar and Head of the Public Affairs Directorate, Lamara Garba, and made available to Grassroots Parrot on Sunday.

The statement clarified that the incident referenced in the reports occurred during the 2021/2022 Direct Entry admissions—over two years ago—and involved applicants who submitted forged results.
“BUK’s rigorous screening process uncovered a number of applications supported by fake results. In line with our zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud, all such applicants were denied admission,” Garba stated.
According to him, contrary to the impression of a scandal, the university actions were applauded by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which commended BUK’s diligence in maintaining admission standards.

“In recognition of its efforts, BUK was awarded the Award of Excellence and Due Diligence by JAMB in 2023—the first Nigerian university to receive such an honour.
“The facts remain clear: BUK acted with integrity, upheld high standards, and was commended for doing so,” Garba added, urging the public to disregard the “false information being shared online.”
He reaffirmed BUK’s commitment to transparency, quality, and fairness in all academic processes, noting that it remains dedicated to maintaining public trust and upholding academic excellence.
