The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the demotion of a registrar at the Upper Sharia Court, Gwarzo, Hudu Idris, and ordered his compulsory retirement over alleged fraud.

This followed a petition filed by one Alhaji Sani Bozo against Idris and a casual watchman at the court, Abba Bala Gwarzo, over alleged intimidation and illegal monetary demands.

A statement by the spokesman of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, on Sunday said the duo admitted their involvement in the corrupt practices and receipt of a bribe amounting to N214,000.

The statement said the registrar has been demoted by one grade level and placed on compulsory retirement with immediate effect, while Gwarzo’s contract appointment has been terminated.

“The commission has reviewed the findings of the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) regarding a petition filed by one Alhaji Sani Bozo Rimin Gado against Hudu Idris, a registrar at the Upper Sharia Court, Gwarzo, and Abba Bala Gwarzo, a casual watchman at the same court.

The petition alleged intimidation and illegal monetary demands by the two court staff. Following a thorough investigation, both individuals appeared before the JPCC and admitted their involvement in corrupt practices amounting to N214,000.

In line with its commitment to upholding the integrity of the judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission adopted the recommendations of the JPCC and took the following actions:

Hudu Idris has been demoted by one grade level and placed on compulsory retirement with immediate effect for receiving bribes, while Abba Bala Gwarzo’s contract appointment has been terminated with immediate effect for his role in the corrupt act.” The statement said.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Judicial Service Commission has lifted the suspension of its three officials, Bilya Abdullahi, Auwalu Khalil, and Ismaila Garba, over an alleged forgery of a court reversal order.

The statement said the case was thoroughly investigated by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC), which discovered that there was not enough evidence on which to prosecute them.

The development prompted the Commission to lift the suspension of the officers with immediate effect, warning them to desist from illegal and unethical actions, which will not be condoned by the Commission.

“The commission deliberated on the suspension of Bilya Abdullahi, Auwalu Ibrahim Khalil, and Ismaila Garba following a complaint lodged by one Muzdalifa regarding an alleged forgery of a court reversal order.

“The case was thoroughly investigated by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) and subsequently referred to the police for further inquiry. The police investigation was forwarded to the office of the DPP, where the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice reveals that there is not enough evidence on which to prosecute them.

“In light of these findings, the Commission resolved to lift the suspension of the aforementioned officers with immediate effect, while Bilya Abdullahi has been issued with a strong warning to desist from illegal and unethical actions, which will not be condoned by the Commission.” The statement said.

In the same vein, the commission under Chairmanship of the state chief judge, Hon. Justice Dije Abdu Aboki approved the appointment of some individuals to key managerial positions.

They are Chief Magistrate Hajara Garba Ahmad, appointed as acting Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice; Musa Ibrahim Umar, acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Administration & General Services) of the High Court of Justice; Usman Adam, acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Magistracy) of the High Court of Justice; and Fatima Garba Yakasai, acting Deputy Chief Registrar (Legal) of the High Court of Justice.

Other appointments at the Kano State High Court of Justice are Chief Magistrate Hadiza Rabiu Bello, appointed as acting Director, Judicial Service Commission; Chief Magistrate Zuhura Madaki, acting Director, Training Department; and Senior Magistrate Malikatu Mudh Nuraini, acting Assistant Director, Training Department.

The statement said the appointments were made after careful consideration of their work ethics, track records, and recognition of their hard work, humility, integrity, total commitment, and dedication to serving the judiciary.
