The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Tuesday announced the suspension of its planned strike following an agreement with the Federal Government on several key demands, including the payment of outstanding allowances and improved welfare for doctors.
The decision was reached after an emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council, where members assessed commitments made by government representatives and agreed to allow further dialogue.
According to NARD, the move was based on noticeable progress in ongoing negotiations, particularly assurances regarding the prompt payment of salary arrears, hazard allowances, and efforts to address challenges linked to the Medical Residency Training Fund.
However, the association clarified that the issues have not been fully resolved, noting that the government has only demonstrated a renewed commitment to addressing the concerns that initially prompted the strike threat.
