The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday night arrested controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky, over abuse of naira, spraying of notes and currency mutilation.

He was reportedly arrested in Lagos and has been detained at the Lagos Command of the EFCC.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed his arrest on Thursday, noting that Bobrisky would be charged to court.

Oyewale said: “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of nara notes, and currency mutilation, among others.

“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira.

“Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”

Bobrisky has been embroiled in several controversies over the past weeks.

A controversial activist Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan had called on the police to arrest Bobrisky for his transgender lifestyle.

After his release from police custody on Sunday, VeryDarkMan vowed that he would not relent until Bobrisky was incarcerated.

However, reacting to discussions on cross-dressing and sexuality on social media, on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that while the crossdressing lifestyle might not align with societal norms, it is not a criminal offense under the Nigerian law.

Adejobi said that certain cases are hard to prove without evidence, and as such, many who cross-dress are often accused of other crimes, and until proof is found, these individuals cannot be arrested.
