Angry Police Allegedly Kills Teenager In Ibadan After Heated Altercation

A yet-to-be-identified police officer has allegedly shot and killed a teenager known as DMX in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Punch, the incident occurred on Tuesday after a disagreement between the officer and the young victim escalated. A source familiar with the situation said the policeman allegedly shot DMX in the leg during the confrontation.

“DMX had an issue with a police officer. The altercation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends were alerted, and they came and rushed him to the hospital. The teenager had already lost a significant amount of blood before receiving medical attention,” the source said.

Despite being rushed to the hospital by his friends, the teenager reportedly died due to severe blood loss before doctors could stabilise him.

The incident gained widespread attention after an 𝕏 user, @Sturbyrich65562, disputed claims circulating online that the victim had engaged in a physical fight with the officer. The user acknowledged that the deceased was a member of the Eiye confraternity but insisted that he never attacked the officer.

“Naija police killed one of my area gees. Though he’s a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman. He was shot in Ibadan. I think the policeman was trigger-happy based on what I heard,” he posted, tagging anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra to demand an investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Naija Confra corroborated claims that DMX was taken to the hospital alive and that payment had already been made for blood transfusion. However, they alleged that delays and negligence on the part of the medical facility contributed to his death.

“He was rushed to the hospital alive, and payment was made for blood as he was already losing a lot of blood. However, his friends claim that delays and negligence from the hospital, even after payment, contributed to his death,” the group stated.

The platform also disclosed a startling detail: DMX’s father is reportedly a senior police officer, while the identity of the officer who fired the fatal shot remains unknown.
