A tragic incident has thrown the Adamo community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, into mourning after a professional boxer, popularly known as Bintin, allegedly punched a local carpenter, identified simply as Yellow, to death during an argument over a burst football.
According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began after Yellow — known in the neighbourhood for his fair complexion — accidentally punctured a football belonging to the boxer’s young son.
The boy’s mother reportedly phoned her husband, who was away from home, to inform him about the incident.
On his return, the enraged boxer confronted Yellow, accusing him of deliberately damaging his child’s football.

What started as a heated verbal exchange soon escalated into a physical confrontation until the community head, popularly called the Baale, intervened and ordered the carpenter to replace the ball.
Witnesses said Yellow complied and went out to buy a new football. However, the boxer, still angry, allegedly pursued him and struck him with a heavy punch in the forehead. The carpenter reportedly collapsed instantly.
Residents rushed the victim to Agbowa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
A community resident who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity described the boxer as a violent and hot-tempered individual known for his aggressive behaviour.

“He has always been arrogant and quick to fight. Everyone here knows his temper,” the resident said.
Following the tragic incident, Bintin reportedly turned himself in at the Imota Police Station, where he was taken into custody.
Confirming the development, the Baale of the community said the deceased would be buried later in the day according to Islamic rites, adding that peace had since returned to the area.

There were initial rumours that the suspect might have been released, but the Lagos State Police Command dismissed the reports.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and assured that the suspect remains in custody.
“Divisional Police Officers do not have the authority to release a murder suspect. I have spoken with the Divisional Head, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation,” she said.
