Alleged Adultery: Court Fixes Date For Hearing Case Of Suspended Jigawa Commissioner

JIGAWA COMMISSIONER

The Kano State Shari’a Court has fixed Tuesday, October 22, 2024, for hearing of a criminal complaint filed against Auwal Danladi Sankara, the suspended commissioner for special duties in Jigawa State.

Grassroots Parrot had reported how Sankara was allegedly arrested by Kano Hisbah in an uncompleted building with a married woman last week.

The commissioner, however, denied the allegation in a statement he issued to newsmen on Thursday, describing the report of his arrest as mischief aimed at tarnishing his image and political career.

A plaintiff, Alhaji Nasiru Buba, reportedly lodged a direct complaint before the court alleging that his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu—mother of two—and Sankara were engaging in an alleged illicit affair contrary to Islamic law.

However, when the case was mentioned on Monday, Justice Ustaz Ibrahim Sarki Yola, through the court registrar, confirmed that the case of alleged adultery against the troubled commissioner and Nabegu will be heard on Tuesday.

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has, therefore, constituted a five-member committee to investigate the allegation against the commissioner.

The committee has the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, as Chairman; Commissioners for Information, Mr. Sagir Musa; Basic Education, Mr. Lawal Danzomo; and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Usman Muhammed, as members.

The committee is expected to submit its findings in two weeks.

This was contained in a statement signed by the SSG, Mr. Ibrahim, in Dutse on Sunday.

Ibrahim said the state government considered the magnitude of the allegation of serious concern to the state.

He said that media reports on the issue led to significant embarrassment and degradation to the reputation of the government.

“The government is compelled to set up a committee to investigate the allegations,” he said.

On Saturday, the Jigawa State government suspended the commissioner to facilitate a thorough investigation, ensure transparency, and maintain the integrity of the state.

In a statement on Saturday, Ibrahim said, “The decision comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
