Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, a public holiday across the state to mark the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year, 1447 AH.

Grassroots Parrot reports that the announcement was made in a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday.

The Governor congratulated the people of the state—particularly the Muslim community—on the commencement of the Hijrah year and called for reflection on its deeper meaning.

“The Governor has again approved that Thursday, the first day of Muharram 1447, be observed as a statewide holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar,” the statement read.

Governor AbdulRazaq urged Muslims to reflect on the lessons of Hijrah, describing it as a symbol of personal and collective sacrifice for noble causes, and a call to abandon all that contradicts peace, justice, and harmony.

He also called for renewed dedication to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and dialogue among citizens, stressing the value of strong human relations in building a united society.

“Hijrah teaches personal and collective sacrifice for good causes and abandonment of everything that is antithetical to peace, harmony, and social justice,” the governor added.

He prayed that the new year would bring peace, prosperity, security, and spiritual renewal to all families in Kwara State.
