Adenuga Rebuts ‘Broke’ Claim By Papa Ajasco Actor, Calls Narrative Misleading

Veteran filmmaker and CEO of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has dismissed claims by actor Abiodun Ayoyinka—popularly known as Papa Ajasco—that he is financially struggling.

Ayoyinka had stirred reactions online after alleging hardship despite his long-running role in the hit TV series Papa Ajasco and Company.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adenuga described the claims as “false and misleading,” stressing that there has been no neglect or fallout between him and the actor.

He added that his initial reaction to the viral video was that Ayoyinka was simply extending his comedic brand to social media.

“I am happy for him, as his money-making strategy using social media has apparently worked,” Adenuga said.

He described Ayoyinka as a versatile actor who closely resembles the original Papa Ajasco character he created in 1976, noting that their relationship remains cordial with no irreconcilable differences.

Addressing the controversy, Adenuga said his response was aimed at correcting misinformation and preserving the integrity of a legacy that has entertained Nigerians for decades.

He also highlighted Ayoyinka’s background as a retired civil servant with the Lagos State Government, stating that the actor had enjoyed steady support over the years, including access to vehicles and other benefits.

On brand restrictions, Adenuga clarified that while the “Papa Ajasco” name is protected, actors are free to pursue other opportunities, provided they seek approval when necessary for brand-related engagements.

He questioned the basis of Ayoyinka’s financial claims, pointing to his long public service career and retirement benefits.

Adenuga further noted that other cast members continue to feature in various productions, emphasizing that the company does not limit artistes from external engagements.

According to him, actors typically spend only a few weeks each year on set, leaving room for other ventures.

He maintained that Wale Adenuga Productions meets its financial obligations in line with industry standards and rejected any suggestion of exploitation.

Adenuga concluded by reaffirming the company’s commitment to professionalism and expressing appreciation for public concern and support.
