Kano Police Arrest Suspect For Stabbing Friend To Death Under Drugs Influence

Kano State Police Command on Monday confirmed the arrest of one Abba Garba Ibrahim, who allegedly stabbed his 22 year old friend, Zaharaddeen Iliyasu to death over misunderstanding.

A statement by the Police Spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna said the incident occurred last Friday at Chiranci Dorayi Quarters in Kano State.

Haruna explained that Garba stabbed his friend on the neck and he was eventually confirmed dead on arrival at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

According to the statement, the 25 year old suspect was arrested in an attempt to escape to Niger Republic and has been handed over to the Command’s Homicide Section for discreet investigation.

The spokesperson noted that the police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to have singlehandedly committed the act under the influence of intoxicating drugs.

“On the 29 March, 2024 at about 10:30pm, a distress call was received through the Command’s emergency number; 08032419754 that there was misunderstanding between two friends at Chiranci Dorayi Quarters Kano where one Abba Garba Ibrahim, 25 years old, popularly known as “Dan ‘Kuda” used knife and stabbed one Zaharaddeen Iliyasu, 22 years old, ‘m’, of same address on his neck, and as a result he felt down in pool of blood.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc ordered the immediate cordoning off of the entry and exit points of the State to evade escape and directed the deployment of Police Operatives led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Panshekara Division, CSP Ya’u Sadiq Abdul to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, the body was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano where a medical doctor certified the body dead, whereas the suspect, Abba Garba Ibrahim was arrested in an attempt to escape to Niger Republic.

“The situation was immediately brought under control and the suspect was transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section for discrete investigation.

“On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have singlehandedly committed the act under the influence of intoxicating drugs.

“The Commissioner of Police assures the residents of diligent investigation, and prosecution and also calls on the good people of the State to continue to cooperate with Police and give all necessary support.”
