The Kano State Police Command has dismissed social media reports suggesting the recent arrest of a suspected kidnapper known as “Ali Kwara,” clarifying that a viral video circulating online is from 2019, not a new development.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that the footage was originally recorded at the Bompai Police Headquarters six years ago.
According to the Command, the video featured an interview conducted by journalists in 2019, led by the late Abubakar Dahiru Yakasai, alongside then Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, now retired CP Balarabe Sule.

The suspect, Ali Kwara, had been arrested in Diga, Panshekara Quarters, in connection with multiple kidnapping and armed robbery cases.
Police said the suspect voluntarily confessed during the investigation, and the video was part of a public briefing intended to update residents on efforts to combat crime at the time.
The Command urged the public to refrain from sharing the old video, warning that circulating misleading information could create unnecessary fear and panic.
“The Kano State Police Command remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” the statement read. The public was advised to verify information before sharing and to report suspicious activities promptly.
The commissioner expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and timely information from residents, noting that such support remains crucial to sustaining peace and security across the state.
