Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has said his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections is in the hands of God, not man, stressing that leadership is a divine trust rather than a human arrangement.

Yusuf made the declaration on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Shura Council, the state’s highest advisory body, held at the Government House in Kano.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor recalled the turbulent aftermath of the 2023 elections, noting that many had written him off before providence elevated him to power.

“I faced the most difficult challenges of my life after the 2023 elections. But through those challenges and tears, I remain committed to the service of Kano. I am still here because of God, not because of any individual,” he said.

The governor maintained that his administration would not be distracted by political calculations or speculation ahead of 2027, stressing that his priority is to continue delivering programs that will uplift the lives of Kano residents.

“Leadership is never in the hands of man. God installs and removes leaders as He wishes. Whether I seek re-election or not, my duty is to keep delivering meaningful programs that will benefit the electorate,” Yusuf affirmed.

Acknowledging the temporality of power, the governor added, “I know that one day I will vacate this seat. That is why I am doing my best now to transform Kano physically, socially, and morally.”

Yusuf also expressed deep concern about the plight of young people in the state, pointing to drug abuse, thuggery, and other social vices as major threats to their future.

As part of efforts to address the problem, he announced the establishment of a new reformatory institution for women, which he said would rehabilitate victims of drug abuse and other social challenges.

He further appealed to religious leaders to lend their voice to the government’s reform agenda, noting that clerics play a vital role in shaping society and curbing societal ills.
