A prominent TikTok content creator, Abubakar Kilina, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a Magistrate Court in Kano State following charges filed against him by the Kano State Censorship Board.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the board’s public relations officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, Kilina was accused of promoting cross-dressing, indecent behavior, and the use of inappropriate language in his online content—actions the board says violate the cultural and religious values upheld in Kano State.
During proceedings at the No-Man’s-Land Magistrate Court, the prosecution, led by Barrister Garzali Maigari Bichi, presented the charges against Kilina. The content creator reportedly pleaded guilty to all allegations.
In her ruling, Magistrate Hajiya Halima Wali ordered that Kilina be held in custody from June 4 to June 17, 2025, pending the court’s final decision on the matter.

Reacting to the development, the Executive Secretary of the Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, emphasized the agency’s commitment to monitoring and regulating social media behavior within the state.
He warned that individuals who promote what the board deems immoral content online would face strict legal consequences.
“Kilina’s case is part of an ongoing effort to clamp down on online content that contradicts the moral fabric of our society,” the board’s statement read. “We will not allow social media to become a platform for undermining our values.”
The board also revealed that Kilina is not the first TikTok user to face legal action in the state. In recent months, several others have been prosecuted for similar offenses, with some receiving one-year jail terms or fines of up to N100,000.
