Protesters took to the streets in Abuja and Lagos on Monday, defying repeated police warnings.
The demonstrations, led by the Take It Back Movement, unfolded across several cities despite heightened security alerts.
In Abuja, activist Omoyele Sowore and human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju led demonstrators, pushing forward despite efforts by police to disperse the crowd. In Lagos, protesters marched through Ikeja holding placards and chanting slogans.

However, in Rivers State, protests were swiftly shut down. Security operatives fired teargas at organisers gathered at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, preventing the demonstration from gaining traction.
The Nigeria Police Force had earlier condemned the protest’s timing, which coincided with the newly established National Police Day.
Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi described the protest as “a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police and, by extension, the nation.”
