Police authorities have arrested Abba Saidu, one of the survivors of the recent IED explosion that rocked the Almajiri Tsangaya Modern School in Kuchibuyi community, located on the outskirts of Kubwa town in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Grassroots Parrot gathered that Saidu was taken into police custody immediately after being discharged from the hospital where he had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the blast.

The explosion, which occurred on January 6, 2025, claimed the lives of two individuals, Harisu Lawan and Majid Ibrahim.

Another victim, Fauziyya Ilyasu, was treated at the Kubwa General Hospital and discharged within the week, while Saidu, due to the severity of his injuries, was referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada. He reportedly spent a week there before being taken into custody.

Daily Trust reports that Saidu’s elder brother, Salisu Dungu, expressed concerns over his brother’s detention. He revealed that police officers closely monitored Saidu during his hospital stay and arrested him upon his release.

“I stayed with him for some days before asking my brother, Nura, to come from our village in Katsina State to look after him. Later, Nura called me to say that the police had detained Abba at their office in Life-Camp and later transferred him to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID),” Dungu said.

He further stated that his brother would have spent two weeks in detention by Monday, February 3.

Dungu added that based on information provided by Saidu while he was hospitalized, the explosive device was initially found by one of the deceased victims, Harisu Lawan, on a nearby farm while they were scavenging for sweet potatoes.

In a related development, Iliya Shuaibu, the father of the other discharged victim, Fauziyya Ilyasu, expressed concern over the continued detention of the school proprietor, Adamu Hashimu.

Hashimu has been in police custody since the day of the explosion, raising further questions about the police’s ongoing investigation.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) are yet to issue an official statement on the arrest of Saidu at the time of this report.

The circumstances surrounding the explosion and the subsequent arrests remain unclear, leaving families of the victims seeking answers and justice for their loved ones.
