Nigerian-American billionaire and industrialist Adedeji Adeleke, father of superstar musician Davido, has revealed that his highly anticipated 1,250MW power plant will be operational by January 2025.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, during the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council, where Adeleke spoke as a representative from the West-Central Africa Division.
Adeleke shared that the power plant, valued at $2 billion, will be the largest thermal power plant in Nigeria.
He also detailed some of the challenges faced during the process of obtaining the environmental permit, including opposition from government officials.

One official even stated that the project would “never see the light of day,” a comment Adeleke rejected by turning to prayer for divine intervention.
His company, Pacific Energy, partnered with Chinese engineering firms for the design and construction of the plant.
Adeleke first spoke about the project during a lecture at Adeleke University’s 9th graduation ceremony in July 2023, where he mentioned that the project, based in a village in Ondo State, had already provided over 1,000 jobs to local residents.

However, the development faced a setback when looters stole turbine components worth $5 million, causing delays. Despite this, Adeleke now proudly announces that the project is nearing completion and is on track to launch early next year.
The plant is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s energy sector, helping to address the country’s power generation challenges.
