Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to attend Senegal’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebration in Dakar.
Grassroots Parrot reports that the Vice President is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the milestone event, which marks Senegal’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1960.
The country celebrates its Independence Day annually on April 4 with grand ceremonies, parades, and cultural festivities.
Shettima’s attendance follows an official invitation extended to President Tinubu by Senegalese President Faye Diomaye, following strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Senegal.

The celebrations will take place at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, with President Faye hosting Vice President Shettima alongside other high-profile guests from across Africa and beyond.
This trip comes just 24 hours after President Tinubu departed Nigeria for a two-week working visit to France. Tinubu’s visit aims to foster bilateral relations and attract foreign investments to Nigeria.
Shettima’s visit to Senegal further reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and diplomacy, strengthening relations between both West African nations.
