The Kano State Film and Censorship Board has ordered the immediate closure of a playground located within the Kano Zoo following allegations that it hosted a dance performance considered indecent and culturally offensive during the recent Sallah celebrations.
Grassroots Parrot gathered that the action came after a special operation conducted by a monitoring committee led by the Director of Culture, Abubakar Zakari Garun Babba.
The committee was established by the board’s chairman, Abba El-Mustapha, to ensure that entertainment centres across the state adhered to cultural and moral guidelines during the festivities.
According to a statement issued by the board, a man and a woman were observed dancing in what was described as a “clearly indecent manner,” violating public morality and going against traditional Hausa values.

The incident was first reported by the Kano Hisbah Board, whose undercover officers were stationed at various entertainment spots, including the zoo, to monitor public conduct during the holiday. The officers reportedly witnessed the controversial dance and alerted the Film and Censorship Board.
Upon verification of the report, the board swiftly moved to shut down the playground and confiscated all equipment used during the event.
Authorities have confirmed that the woman involved in the dance was apprehended by Hisbah operatives, while the male participant is currently at large.
Chairman Abba El-Mustapha commended the swift action taken by the various enforcement bodies and expressed gratitude to the people of Kano for their cooperation.

The board reiterated its commitment to monitoring public events and ensuring that all entertainment activities in Kano State reflect the community’s religious and cultural values.
