The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Hadiza Mamuda, for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic altercation in Garin Abba Village, Fika Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, according to the police, occurred after a heated argument between the couple over food items, which led the suspect to attack the deceased with a log of wood, fatally injuring him.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Damaturu. He stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, and an investigation into the incident is underway. “The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the completion of the investigation,” Abdulkarim said.

The victim, a polygamist, is survived by two wives and five children, including the suspect. The tragic incident has left the family and the community in mourning.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, expressed deep concern over the rising cases of domestic violence and called for strengthened community and religious interventions.

He urged religious and traditional leaders to intensify sensitisation campaigns to educate couples on peaceful conflict resolution and the dangers of physical violence in marital relationships.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice is served in the case.
