President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosts the Edo State governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday evening.

The meeting is taking place shortly after Okpebholo’s victory in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Okpebholo arrived at the State House accompanied by several prominent figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and a delegation of APC governors and leaders.

Among those in the entourage are Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma; Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo; and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

Also present at the meeting is former APC national chairman and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, as well as Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

The visit comes in the wake of Okpebholo’s triumph in the Edo governorship election held last Saturday, solidifying APC’s position in the state. Okpebholo’s victory is seen as a crucial win for the party, and the courtesy visit to President Tinubu solidifies the governor-elect’s alignment with the policies and agenda of the APC-led federal government.

This meeting is expected to focus on strategies for a smooth transition of power and plans for the development of Edo State under the new administration. With several high-ranking party officials in attendance, the visit also highlights the unity and support for Okpebholo within the APC.

Details of the discussions between President Tinubu and the governor-elect are yet to be made public, but sources suggest that the focus is on fostering collaboration between the state and federal governments to ensure good governance and developmental progress in Edo State.
