A court in Kumasi, Ashanti Region of Ghana, has sentenced three Nigerian nationals to a combined 96 years in prison for stealing vehicles.

The convicts – Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze – were arrested on June 20 after police accused them of stealing parked cars in the city.

According to Ashanti Regional Police spokesperson, Godwin Ahianyo, the suspects were arraigned at the Atasemanso court on July 22, where they were found guilty of car theft. The judgment was delivered this week, handing each convict lengthy jail terms that will run concurrently.

The ruling comes amid growing public outcry in Ghana over the involvement of Nigerians in crime-related activities.

In May, a court in Tarkwa sentenced a Nigerian woman to 20 years in prison for trafficking four girls into prostitution. Similarly, in July, the Ghana Immigration Service announced the arrest of 50 Nigerians over alleged internet fraud and human trafficking.

This latest conviction has further intensified debates about migration, law enforcement, and the call for stricter action against foreigners involved in criminal activities in the country
