Two minors, Imaran Hassan, 11, and Nura Jibrin, 10, have sustained bullet wounds following a violent altercation between students of Annur Islamic Model School in Chaichainiya and a group of youths near Zuma Bread Bakery, Suleja.

The clash, which erupted on Thursday night, was reportedly triggered by a dispute over a girl. According to an anonymous source, the conflict escalated around 9:30 p.m. after Tarawih prayers.

“What started as a dispute over a girlfriend turned into a serious fight,” the source disclosed. He further alleged that Umar Idris, an SS3 student, led his colleagues into the confrontation, armed with weapons.

During the altercation, Hassan and Jibrin were struck by bullets in their thighs, with the gunfire reportedly originating from unknown directions.

Law enforcement officers and vigilantes were promptly mobilized to restore order and evacuate the injured minors to Suleja General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of multiple individuals linked to the incident. “Six suspects have been apprehended in connection with the attack, while efforts are ongoing to capture other students involved,” the source added.

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, verified the incident, stating that 11 suspects were arrested in Chaichainiya along Kaduna Road.

“On 6/3/2025 at about 11 p.m., reports were received that youths and some secondary school students were engaged in a fight in Chaichainiya, along Kaduna Road, over issues related to relationships involving one Umar Idris,” Abiodun stated.

“It was reported that during the incident, gunshots were fired from different directions, striking two victims in their laps—Nura and Imrana, aged 10 and 11, respectively.”

Abiodun further revealed that a covert police operation led to the arrest of 11 suspects, including Umar Idris, who are now under investigation.

He also disclosed that findings indicated an officer of a sister security agency was responsible for the gunfire that injured the minors.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is being intensified for further necessary action, and any new developments will be communicated to the public,” he added.

Authorities continue to work closely with school officials and community leaders to ensure the safety of residents and prevent future violence.
