24 retired military officers have formally declared allegiance to the Kwankwasiyya movement, led by former governor and 2023 presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The officers, all natives of Kano, recently retired from the Nigerian Armed Forces in January 2025 after completing 35 years of meritorious service.
The delegation, which visited Kwankwaso at his residence in Kano, was led by Hon. Kabiru Getso Haruna, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board.
Haruna described the move as a “calculated and principled alignment” with the values and aspirations of the Kwankwasiyya movement, which has maintained a strong grassroots presence across Northern Nigeria.

“These are disciplined, patriotic Nigerians who have given their lives to the service of the country,” Haruna said. “Now, they are committing their experience and integrity to strengthening a movement that represents the hope of the common people.”
Kwankwaso, visibly elated by the endorsement, welcomed the former officers with gratitude and admiration for their service. He emphasized the significance of their support for the broader goals of political inclusion and national development.
“This is a moment of pride and honour,” Kwankwaso remarked. “These men have served the nation with distinction, and now they are joining us to serve democracy and the people. Their commitment will further strengthen our collective resolve to build a better Nigeria.”
He noted that the addition of highly respected professionals such as military veterans underscores the Kwankwasiyya movement’s appeal across diverse sectors of society.

“Building a movement that is anchored on merit, discipline, and service delivery requires the involvement of people with a track record of integrity,” Kwankwaso added.
Kwankwaso, who ran under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has remained an influential figure in Northern politics and continues to position his movement as a formidable force for future electoral contests.
