The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Alhassan, for conspiring with an accomplice, Abdulazeez Adamu, to kidnap and murder his own brother after collecting a ransom of N15 million in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, disclosed the chilling details during a press briefing at the command headquarters on Monday, August 12, 2024. The incident, which occurred in 2023, came to light following the arrest of Abdulazeez Adamu in connection with the abduction of another resident in the same area.
According to CP Garba, Abdullahi’s brother, Aliyu Alhassan, 48, was kidnapped in 2023, and the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N60 million. The family, instead of reporting the incident to the police, paid N15 million, but Aliyu was never released.

During a preliminary investigation, Abdulazeez confessed to the police that he had conspired with Abdullahi Alhassan to kidnap his brother for ransom. He further revealed that they had killed Aliyu on the same day he was abducted.
The case escalated when another resident, Abba Abubakar, 30, was kidnapped on June 1, 2024. The kidnappers claimed to have masterminded both kidnappings and held both victims hostage. However, upon further investigation, it was revealed that both victims had already been murdered.
“The suspect [Abdulazeez] confessed to having conspired with the first victim’s brother, Abdullahi Alhassan, to kidnap and murder both victims,” CP Garba stated. “The bodies were found and have been recovered, with one already in a state of decay.”

The bodies of the victims have been deposited at Dawakin Kudu General Hospital, and the suspects are in police custody. The case will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation, the Commissioner added.
The shocking incident has sent ripples of fear and outrage throughout the Dawakin Kudu community, highlighting the gruesome lengths some individuals will go to for financial gain.
The police have urged the public to report such crimes immediately, stressing the importance of involving law enforcement rather than taking matters into their own hands.
