Pastor Adeboye Issues Apology For Controversial Tithing Remarks

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has publicly apologized for his earlier statement suggesting that believers who do not pay tithes would not enter heaven. This apology came during a message at the ongoing annual national youth convention of the church held at RCCG Redemption City.

In his address, Adeboye acknowledged his error, stating, “I am going to be talking to everybody as soon as God permits me; I am going to apologize for making a mistake by saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you will not be making it to heaven.

That is wrong.” He emphasized that such a claim is not supported by biblical teachings, highlighting instead the importance of peace and holiness as prerequisites for salvation. “What the Bible says is to follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see God,” he affirmed.

The pastor elaborated on the complexities of truth, stating, “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” drawing a parallel with scientific discoveries that evolve over time, such as the understanding of light.

He recounted his experience at a Kenneth E. Hagin convention in Tulsa, USA, where he witnessed a participant pledge a significant contribution to a fundraising effort for the Rhema Bible College.

Adeboye shared the inspiring story of a man who turned a $500 investment into a $50 million business by committing to generous giving.

In his message, Adeboye encouraged attendees to adopt a fervent approach to worship and giving, likening it to the passionate praise exhibited by King David. He remarked, “If you want to dominate, you must know how to praise God violently.”

He lamented the tendency of some believers to become more reserved in their worship as they mature in faith, stating, “Most of us don’t appreciate that. When we are much younger in the Lord, we praise God freely.”

Pastor Adeboye concluded his message by reiterating the importance of sacrificial giving, citing King Solomon’s abundant offerings to God, which led to unprecedented peace and prosperity during his reign.

This apology marks a significant moment in RCCG’s leadership, aiming to foster a more inclusive and understanding dialogue within the church community regarding tithing and faith practices.
