Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he once unknowingly suffered from a 25% hearing loss during a visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman-Adamu, on Sunday.
Grassroots Parrot reports that Obasanjo shared this experience while speaking in Bauchi, emphasizing the importance of regular medical checks for hearing impairments, as many people may be unaware of their condition.
Recounting the incident, the former president said he was abroad when he realized he couldn’t hear someone clearly.
Although he insisted his hearing was fine, a medical examination revealed that he had lost 25% of his hearing capacity. To his surprise, a check on his Chief Security Officer at the time revealed an even greater degree of hearing loss.

This personal experience led to the creation of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, which has since partnered with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to provide ear treatment and hearing aids to thousands of Nigerians.
Obasanjo announced plans to distribute hearing aids to approximately 10,000 underprivileged individuals in the North-East, starting with Bauchi State, where 2,000 people are set to benefit.
The initiative, called the *‘Sound Intervention Mission so Nigerians may hear,’* is part of the Obasanjo Foundation’s broader health outreach.
In his response, Emir Suleiman-Adamu praised Obasanjo’s dedication to Nigeria’s development, noting that his visit to Bauchi reflects his commitment to the progress of all regions in the country.
Obasanjo was welcomed by Governor Bala Mohammed, former Governor Adamu Mu’azu, Senator Abdul Ningi, and other dignitaries during his visit.
