The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered the immediate detention of officers accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from a traveler, acting on a directive from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The order was announced in a statement released Wednesday by NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale.
The incident, which came to light through a viral social media post, reportedly involved officers extorting the money from a young man travelling from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, to Akure, Ondo State.
Condemning the act, NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, described the officers’ behavior as unprofessional and a clear breach of the Corps’ Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedure.
He ordered that the implicated officers be transferred to the Corps’ national headquarters in Abuja for detention and further investigation.

A disciplinary committee has been set up to thoroughly probe the allegations. Audi stated that any officer found guilty will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the Public Service Rules.
“The Corps, under my leadership, will not condone any form of misconduct,” Audi emphasized. “We are committed to upholding accountability and ensuring officers are held responsible for their actions.”
He also urged the public to continue sharing relevant information with the Corps, assuring that whistleblowers would be protected from intimidation or extortion.
Audi reaffirmed his stance on integrity, stating that no officer found guilty of corruption would be shielded.
