A notorious thug, Abba Burakita, was apprehended by courageous residents while leading his gang in a brazen raid aimed at snatching women’s mobile phones and stealing motorcycles from unsuspecting riders.
The incident took place on Friday along Race Course Road, close to the Kano Government House.
According to reports, Mr. Burakita, a feared criminal gang leader who has been terrorizing the Dorayi area of Kano city, was caught red-handed by vigilant locals. The gang had taken advantage of the ongoing Polo tournament at the Race Course to carry out their criminal activities, targeting women and motorcycle riders in the area.

Witnesses at the scene reported that some brave residents decided to confront the thugs, eventually overpowering them. In the ensuing struggle, Mr. Burakita sustained fractures to his legs. Following this, the police were called to the scene and promptly arrested the notorious gang leader.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, appeared to confirm the arrest in a post on his Facebook page. Writing in Hausa, SP Kiyawa stated, “Peace be Upon You all, we have succeeded in making a major arrest in Dorayi and a notorious thug has been caught.
We are grateful for the assistance we are receiving from the public.” While the post did not mention Mr. Burakita by name, it was clear that the arrest referred to the notorious criminal.

This arrest comes after a previous attempt by the Kano State Police Command to reform Mr. Burakita. Several months ago, during the tenure of former Kano Police Commissioner CP Usaini Gumel, Mr. Burakita and 40 members of his gang had engaged in a dialogue with the police, promising to abandon their criminal activities in exchange for a pardon. The thug had pledged to contribute to peace in the volatile Dorayi community.
However, despite his promises, Mr. Burakita soon returned to his life of crime, leading to deadly gang brawls in the community that resulted in the loss of lives and property. His apprehension marks a significant victory for the residents of Dorayi and the Kano State Police Command in their ongoing battle against crime in the area.
