The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has confirmed that Nigerians will start using a new three-in-one identity card by August this year.
This multipurpose card will integrate identity, financial, and social services, providing a comprehensive solution for citizens across the country.
A senior member of the implementation team, speaking anonymously to newsmen on Friday, disclosed that the commission has been diligently working to meet its launch goals. Despite some delays, the plan remains on track, with deployment and testing currently underway.

“We actually planned for July, although there have been a few delays. We are still hopeful for a July launch, but it will definitely be available between July and August. If there are any changes, the public will be informed,” the official said.
The official emphasized the extensive work involved in deploying the new technology, including configuring the card, enabling outlets, and ensuring the wallet functions correctly.
He explained, “We need to deploy the portal for accessing the service and ensure its scalability. Integrations with all banks are necessary to enable the card, and we are working extra hard to meet our target.”

The initiative aims to offer enhanced options for domestic consumers and foster innovative, cost-effective, and competitive service delivery.
