A tragic incident has plunged the Tukur community in Zaria into mourning and disbelief after an 11-year-old girl, Fadila, was allegedly beaten to death by her mother over a missing N100 note.
The heartbreaking event occurred on Saturday evening, shortly before the Maghrib prayer. According to residents, the mother, identified as Khadija, accused her daughter of stealing the money given to her during the recent Sallah celebration.
In a fit of rage, she reportedly struck Fadila multiple times with a pestle, inflicting fatal injuries.

Eyewitnesses and community members described the scene as horrifying. Some neighbors, in protest against the brutal act, refused to attend the young girl’s funeral, citing a long history of alleged abuse by Khadija.
Many claimed that the deceased was frequently subjected to severe beatings over minor issues, especially related to her hawking activities.
The victim’s father, Malam Mustapha Musa, speaking to journalists, said he was away at the time of the incident and returned home only to be met with the devastating news.

He confirmed that Fadila’s remains had been taken to their hometown in Kano State for burial.
Khadija has reportedly admitted to beating her daughter but claimed she had no intention of killing her. She said her actions were driven by emotional stress and frustration over the missing money.
Local vigilante operatives were the first to respond to the scene, detaining Khadija before handing her over to the police. Authorities are currently investigating the case, which has reignited public discourse around child abuse and domestic violence.
