An Osun State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ila-Orangun has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Raji Ridwan, to three years in prison with hard labour for attempted rape.
The conviction was handed down on Friday, June 20, following Ridwan’s arrest by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps after he attempted to assault a female student sexually at the Federal University of Science, Ila-Orangun.
According to court proceedings, Ridwan unlawfully gained access to a female hostel on campus at night and attempted to assault one of the students.
The victim, however, resisted his advances and raised the alarm, drawing the attention of other students and neighbours. The commotion forced Ridwan to flee the scene.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adeniran held that the act violated Section 359 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 2, Laws of Osun State, 2002, and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour, without the option of a fine.
