The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the principal suspects involved in the brutal killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Baba Ali Muhammad.

The late officer was gruesomely murdered on Monday by an irate mob that stormed the Rano Divisional Police Station following the death of a young man allegedly in police custody. The incident sparked outrage and condemnation across the state and beyond.

In a statement released on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, announced that a total of 41 suspects have now been arrested in connection with the incident, including those identified as the principal culprits. This marks an increase from the 27 individuals earlier taken into custody.

“The Kano State Police Command expresses shock and sadness over the brutal killing of CSP Baba Ali while on active duty,” the statement read. “This senseless act, widely condemned, represents a grave attack on the fabric of our society and the sacrifices of our brave officers.”

SP Kiyawa emphasized that the Command is resolute in its determination to bring all perpetrators to justice. “Following a swift and thorough investigation, a total of 41 suspects have been arrested, including the identified principal suspects. The Police are working tirelessly to ensure no stone is left unturned in apprehending all those involved in this dastardly act.”

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, also reassured residents of Kano State of the Command’s unrelenting commitment to maintaining law and order. He urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
