Elderly Mother Recounts How Her Only Son Was Beheaded Before Her Very Eyes
The wave of gang violence ravaging parts of Kano State is fast spiraling out of control, with brutal revenge killings now claiming the lives of innocent residents inside their homes. In a chilling escalation, attackers are no longer confining their operations to street brawls but are now targeting individuals in the dead of night.
Last weekend, four people were killed in gang-related violence in Kurna Mayanka, Yan Yashi, and Tudun Fulani areas of Ungogo Local Government. One of the victims, 35-year-old Usman Hamidan, was gruesomely murdered in his own home while his elderly, paralyzed mother looked on helplessly.
In an emotional interview with DAILY POST, 78-year-old mother, Hajiya Habi Hamidan, recounted the harrowing moment her only son was slaughtered.
“They broke into our house in the middle of the night while I was sick and lying in my room. I suddenly heard his screams in the courtyard. When I looked out, I saw four of them, their faces covered. I begged them not to kill him. They told me they were sent to kill him and wouldn’t leave until they did,” she wept.
According to Hajiya Habi, the assailants beheaded her son and desecrated the scene.
“His brains were on the floor. Blood everywhere. They even licked the blood off their knives. He was the only one taking care of me. Allah will judge them,” she added, her voice trembling with grief.

Community sources confirmed that Usman’s murder was not an isolated case. Over the past week, several residents have reportedly been killed in similar targeted attacks in Kurna and nearby neighborhoods.
The chairman of the local vigilante group, Alhaji Bashir Lawal Moriki, expressed frustration over what he called community complicity.
“These criminals are not strangers; they are our children. Parents are shielding them. If my own son was involved, I would personally hand him over,” he said.
A security guard, Sabiu, narrowly escaped death after being ambushed by gang members.
“They flashed a bright light in my eyes, and before I could react, I was stabbed and beaten. I still have wounds on my head,” he narrated.
Residents say the growing menace is fueled by rampant drug abuse among youths and allege that police responses have been inadequate, with officers reportedly arresting innocent individuals in the aftermath of attacks.

During a visit to the affected areas, Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, retired Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar, urged locals to defend themselves if under attack.
“Protect yourselves while waiting for security agents to arrive. We are doing all we can to restore peace,” he assured residents.
Efforts to get a response from the Kano State Police Command on the allegations of indiscriminate arrests and ongoing investigations were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
With attackers now targeting homes and killing with impunity, residents fear the violence is entering a more terrifying phase, one that leaves no place safe—not even the walls of one’s home.
