The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board has dragged the Crescent International School to the Kano State Magistrate Court for debt recovery.

In a summary summon filed before the state magistrate court on Monday, the school was accused of refusing to complete payment of debt owed to the plaintiff contrary to Section 11 of the board’s extant law.

The court, however, adjourned the case to Monday, 9th of September, 2024, for hearing of the motion and possible settlement.

Meanwhile, the magistrate court also granted an interim injunction closing the IBN-Masudu Senior Secondary School in Kano for violating the law of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board.

Recall that the IBN-Masudu was among the schools recently inspected by the board during an unscheduled visit for allegedly operating in an unhealthy environment and violating the board’s law.

Baba Abubakar Umar, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Secondary School, confirmed the developments to Grassroots Parrot on Monday.

Umar reiterated his earlier position that closure of schools by the board is no longer fashionable; hence, the board will not hesitate to sue any erring private and voluntary schools in the state.

“I can assure you that other private and voluntary schools that are operating unlawfully without completing the validation exercise at the board will also face a similar fate.

“About 189 voluntary schools recently collected the revalidation form and refused to return it because they rely on some disgruntled individuals at the ministry of education who will not save them from the ongoing prosecution.

“I will not address their case collectively; rather, I will deal with them individually by prosecuting them one after the other because they came here individually, not as a body.” He said.

Baba Umar added that he has the governor’s approval to sanitize the private and voluntary schools in the state, promising not to relent until the needful is done.
