Irate youths in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have reportedly set a police division ablaze following the alleged torture and death of a young man in police custody.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, triggered widespread outrage among residents and friends of the deceased.
Although full details remain sketchy, sources indicate that tensions began after the young man’s demise was reported, allegedly linked to a crisis that erupted on Valentine’s Day.

According to an anonymous source in Ifon, the news of the youth’s death fueled protests, with demonstrators mobilizing and storming the police station in anger.
Despite efforts by law enforcement officers to contain the situation, the protesters overpowered them and set the station on fire.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident. She disclosed that additional police personnel have been deployed to the community to restore order.
Furthermore, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, has reportedly traveled to Ifon to prevent further escalation of violence.

The destruction of the police station has heightened concerns over the already fragile relationship between security agencies and local communities.
