Former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he left office with the same physical assets he had when he assumed the presidency on May 29, 2015.
The former president made this assertion during a meeting with members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) at his residence in Kaduna.
Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday. According to Shehu, Buhari emphasized the importance of integrity and transparency in leadership, stating that public service should be marked by sacrifice and accountability.
During the interaction, the former president urged governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a citizen-focused approach to governance.
“Leadership presents both a challenge and an opportunity,” Buhari said. “Balancing the two would significantly advance national progress.”

He expressed confidence in the current leadership of the APC at the state level, acknowledging their efforts and dedication to national development.
Buhari also extended appreciation to the Tinubu administration for renovating his Kaduna home. While the structure’s exterior remains unchanged, he noted that the interior had undergone significant improvement.
“I thank the President for this gesture,” Buhari said. “It shows continuity and care for past leaders.”
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, led the delegation to Kaduna. He said the visit was to extend Eid-el-Fitr greetings to the former president and to express appreciation for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and the APC.
“Your Excellency, your legacy in Nigerian history is secure,” Uzodinma said. “You remain the only opposition candidate in our nation’s history to have defeated an incumbent. You governed with calm resolve and handed over, with honor, to another APC president.”

Uzodinma praised Buhari’s achievements in security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption, citing specific programs such as the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and the School Feeding Program. He also credited Buhari with initiating a transport infrastructure revolution and fostering food security.
He described Buhari as a “pan-Nigerian leader” whose influence continues to guide the APC, especially after publicly reaffirming his loyalty to the party in recent weeks.
“Your public endorsement of President Tinubu in your birthday message was a powerful symbol of continuity and humility,” Uzodinma added. “We ask you to continue to support and guide us as we take the next steps to deepen progressive politics across the nation.”
The governors, some of whom had served under Buhari’s administration while others are newer to the political scene, expressed gratitude for his statesmanship and pledged to uphold the principles and values he championed.
