A Special Assistant to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Harrison Gwamnishu has shared chilling details of a recent kidnapping incident involving an airport driver and a medical doctor along the Issele-Uku expressway.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. According to Gwamnishu, the abductors—allegedly armed Fulani kidnappers—ambushed their victims while they were traveling from Issele-Uku to Asaba.

Taking to his Facebook page, Gwamnishu disclosed that the kidnappers demanded a ₦15 million ransom, alongside an unusual list of items including cooked jollof rice, chicken, and energy drinks, for the safe release of the captives.

“Just witnessed another ₦15,000,000, cooked jollof rice, chicken, energy drink, etc., delivered to Armed Fulani Kidnappers at Ubulu-Okiti Express, Delta State as ransom,” he wrote.

He revealed that the ransom was paid along the Ubulu-Okiti Expressway, indicating the abductors had remained within the vicinity since the kidnapping.

“They kidnapped (the victims) from Issele-Uku yesterday evening and collected ransom at Ubulu-Okiti this evening. Meaning they didn’t go far,” Gwamnishu added.

The victims have since regained their freedom, though the harrowing details highlight growing insecurity in parts of the state.

Gwamnishu raised concerns over the poor state of local vigilante groups, noting that they are poorly equipped to respond effectively to such threats.

“Our locals I saw here complained bitterly that they are not funded and they don’t have materials. I was informed that if they are well equipped, they will be in the bush. Do I believe them? Yes, 100 percent,” he stated.

The governor’s aide urged residents in surrounding communities—including Ogwashi-Uku, Azagba-Ogwashi, Issele-Azagba, Edo-Ogwashi, Aniagbala, Ubulu-Uku, Issele-Uku, Utulu, Ibusa, Ubulu-Unor, Anifekide, Akuku-Agbor, and Onicha-Ugbo—to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to local authorities.

Security agencies in the state have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
