The Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants has announced that the new national minimum wage will be implemented starting July 29, 2024. This was confirmed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following a committee meeting in Abuja on Friday.
The MoU, seen by our correspondent, also stated that the wage award, which had previously been discontinued by the Federal Government, would be paid until July 28, 2024.
The committee, led by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, took into account the current economic situation before finalizing its recommendations.

The MoU detailed that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) will generate appropriate salary templates for other consolidated salary structures.
It also highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to alleviating the financial challenges faced by workers due to recent fuel price hikes, with measures such as tax waivers and other incentives being considered.
The committee, consisting of 16 members, was tasked with implementing the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024, which raised the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
