The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has sealed off 22 illegal colleges of education operating across different parts of the country.

The action, contained in the commission’s latest performance report, is part of a nationwide crackdown on unaccredited institutions issuing questionable certificates and undermining standards in Nigeria’s education sector.

According to the NCCE, the move followed extensive personnel audits and financial monitoring exercises across all 21 federal colleges of education to ensure strict compliance with regulations.

The clampdown also aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the NCCE, National Universities Commission (NUC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to intensify efforts against so-called “certificate millers” threatening the credibility of the nation’s educational system.

President Tinubu has consistently emphasized his administration’s commitment to raising efficiency and quality in the sector by strengthening collaboration among relevant agencies.

As part of the broader reform, the NCCE is working with the NUC, NBTE, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to eliminate unrecognized institutions and curb certificate forgery in the country.
