The Federal Government has released funds to pay the withheld salaries of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU), according to a statement by Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), on Saturday in Abuja.
Mokwa confirmed that the payments to NASU members had already begun, with many members acknowledging receipt of their salaries.
In addition to NASU payments, Mokwa revealed that the government has also disbursed funds to cover benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS). He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of both Nigerian workers and retirees.

Despite this development, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) remains on strike.
NASU and SSANU commenced a nationwide strike on Monday, pressing the government to address their grievances regarding salary disparities and other issues.
SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim stated that the strike would continue for seven days unless the government took further steps to resolve these concerns.
The unions had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government, calling for rectification of payment inconsistencies within university unions.
