Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied allegations linking him to militant groups, dismissing recent social media posts and videos as deliberate attempts to incite tension in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara condemned the circulation of fabricated videos that falsely depict explosions at oil and gas facilities in Rivers State.

“These videos and reports are completely false and malicious. They are designed to create panic and destabilize the state,” the statement read.

The statement further clarified that affected communities have debunked the claims, assuring the public that all critical infrastructure remains intact and fully operational.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to undertake actions that threaten peace, security, or the economy,” Chukwudi stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace, Fubara stressed that governance and development can only thrive in a stable environment.

“The people of Rivers State deserve peace and progress. We will not allow misinformation or politically motivated distractions to derail our commitment to good governance,” he said.

He also cautioned against attempts to exploit the ongoing political crisis in the state for ulterior motives, warning social media influencers and bloggers against spreading falsehoods.

“Spreading fake news is dangerous and could escalate tensions. We urge those involved to desist immediately,” he warned.

Fubara further called on security agencies to investigate and take decisive action against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
