Tragedy struck in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday, as a 28-year-old electrician got electrocuted while working on a high-tension power line.
Grassroots Parrot gathered that the incident occurred in the Odo Babaode area of the town around 3:29 p.m. The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was reportedly attempting to rectify an electrical fault on an active high-tension cable belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) without shutting down the power from the feeder.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received a distress call at 15:29 hrs. and immediately dispatched a response team to the scene.

“The fire personnel, led by PFS1 Peluola Babatunde, quickly followed the caller, and on arrival at the place, we met the victim already electrocuted,” Akinyinka said. “All necessary precautionary measures were observed so as to safeguard the citizens within the vicinity.”
According to the fire service, the deceased was retrieved from the power installation and subsequently handed over to officers from the Eruwa Police Division for further investigation.
It is not yet established whether the victim was officially assigned by IBEDC or was operating independently at the time of the incident.
